Henry W. DeSaussure writes from Charleston, South Carolina, to William Tilghman and Thomas Crumpton, attorneys for the United Churches of Christ Church and St. Peter's in Philadelphia. He encloses a bill of exchange for $994.20, drawn by R. Hazlehurst & Co. on Isaac Hazlehurst & Sons of Philadelphia and endorsed to the attorneys for the charity they represent. DeSaussure notes that he attempted unsuccessfully to obtain a bill from the Branch Bank in Charleston, but assures the recipients that the drawing house is respectable and that he expects the bill to be honored. He reports that January dividends on Bank of South Carolina shares amounted to $1,100, with $105.80 deducted to satisfy an old claim by Isaac Ford against the late Mr. Dobbins, a payment approved by DeSaussure and Judge Johnson.
