This collection comprises two letters directed to the Rector, Church Wardens, and Vestrymen of the United Episcopal Churches of Christ Church and St. Peter's in Philadelphia. The first letter [p. 1r], dated January 8, 1807, was written by Edward Burd and John F. Mifflin, who had been appointed as a committee by the Trustees of the University to value a lot at the corner of Ninth and Market Streets in response to the church's application to purchase it. They valued the lot—measuring 151½ feet in front on Market Street by 100 feet deep on Ninth Street to a five-foot alley—at £50 per foot. The letter also references a second lot at the northwest corner of Ninth and Chestnut Streets, measuring 94½ feet in front by 95 feet deep to a five-foot alley, which the committee valued at 90 dollars per foot [p. 1r]. The second letter [p. 1v], dated April 5, 1807, is a recommendation written by Robert Blackwell on behalf of Hugh Hill, whom Blackwell had known for many years and who had frequently worked for him. Blackwell describes Hill as honest, industrious, sober, religious, and worthy, noting that he was a pew holder and communicant of St. Peter's Church [p. 1v].
