Description

Gilbert Tennent (1703-1764) was an Irish-American Presbyterian clergyman, and one of the leaders of the Great Awakening.

Tennent delivered this sermon at the funeral of Reverend Mr. John Campbell and Samuel Hazard, an elder at Second Presbyterian, in 1758. He begins by citing Revelation 14:13, "And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."
