Description

The practice of renting pews was common in 18th and 19th century churches; members paid a fee for the right to occupy a particular pew every week. This bound manuscript is a record of pew rents due to Christ Church in September 1824. Entries are listed by pew number, with occupant's name, number of seats, rent rate, arrears, total due and sums paid. Pews in the gallery are listed separately, with new page numbering.
