The practice of renting pews was common in 18th and 19th century churches; members paid a fee for the right to occupy a particular pew every week. This bound manuscript is a record of pew rents due to Christ Church in September 1816 and March 1817. Entries are listed by pew number, with occupants' names, number of seats, amount of rent, total due and amount paid. Rents from September 1816 are listed from the front of the book, with pews in the gallery listed separately, and rents from March 1817 start after page 25, with new page numbering. Page numbers start over one more time with March 1817 pew rents from the gallery listed last.
